About JeliNet
JeliNet is a freelance website design business owned and operated by Jel (Gary Legg). Your projects are managed and delivered by the person with the most investment in the business! Please feel free to call me 'Jel'!
My background brings relatively unique experience to the business that defines JeliNet's approach to web design. It a 50/50 blend of engineering and art.
I spent a number of years as an electronics engineer in aerospace, defence and automotive research and development. Projects included building instruments for the Russian / ESA Mars 94 project, and being part of the team designing the transmission computers for the Bugatti Veyron. High-Reliability engineering demands constant attention to detail.
From 1993 to 2002 I lived in New Zealand. In parallel with engineering, I produced records in my Auckland based studio and enjoyed several radio hits and releases independently and on Universal Music NZ and in Australia. I developed recording, programming, production and mastering skills both in the analogue and (then) emerging digital fields. This led to developing web sites to promote artists in the days when the internet was in its infancy, which was not that long ago!
My first major web design contract was to design a site for Hayley Westenra, when she was initially signed to Universal NZ. Other sites followed for artists such as Nurture (Warner Music), Deep Obsession (Universal), Sample Gee (Universal) and K'lee (Universal). At the same time as Hayley's success saw her signed to Decca International in the London (where her debut album 'Pure' became the UK's fastest selling classical album in history), I relocated the business to the UK.
Once back in the UK, I began to supply website designs and maintenance services for EMI Classics, Virgin Classics, Warner Classics, Universal and Decca via the newly created White Label Productions Ltd. My business has been built up on a reputation for both high quality product and excellent service. In parallel JeliNet has kept contracts for NZ customers and expanded the UK customer base to include independent artists and many businesses. I also supply web design, build and maintenance services to several large design & marketing agencies throughout the South of England.
In keeping with many freelance businesses, JeliNet is operated from a dedicated office based at home. Figures vary but there are estimated to be about a million of us working at home and another two million employees regularly working at home. We're good for the environment - that's at least a million less cars on the roads at 8.00am!
So why 'Jel'?
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. His boss was 'CJ'. My best friend had the same initials so I called him 'CJ'. In return he called me 'GL' which stuck and eventually slurred into Gel and then Gelly which of course is Jelly, and thence back to Jel. One less unimportant mystery solved!
